Silvey departs to become aftermarket management program chair at Northwood University, but will continue to write on the industry for Advanstar

Irvine, Calif. (August 5, 2010) – The Advanstar Automotive Group, the leading provider of integrated media solutions to the automotive aftermarket and collision repair industry,  has announced that Larry Silvey has been named editorial director emeritus. Silvey, the long time editorial director for the Advanstar Automotive Group, is leaving to become the new chair of the automotive aftermarket management program at Northwood University in Midland, Mich.

Silvey will continue to be affiliated with Advanstar Automotive, writing a monthly column on aftermarket topics and serving as a member of the organization’s editorial advisory board.

“I want to congratulate Larry on his new position at our industry’s leading aftermarket educational institution. Northwood University is fortunate to hire someone with such a comprehensive knowledge of our industry,” said Jim Savas, vice president and general manager of Advanstar’s Automotive Group. “Larry has been a valued member of our editorial team for many years and we are thrilled that he has agreed to continue writing for us and to be a part of our editorial advisory board.”

Savas has announced that Michael Willins, web director, Advanstar Automotive Group, will be stepping in to take over Silvey’s responsibilities. Willins has been involved in the automotive industry since 1997, as the former publisher and editor-in-chief of Automotive Body Repair News (ABRN) and a former senior editor of Aftermarket Business. Willins will continue to lead development of the Automotive Group’s electronic properties, including SearchAutoparts.com, as Advanstar expands its leadership position in automotive digital media.

“Mike is an industry veteran that will skillfully lead a seamless transition in our editorial team,” said Savas. “We are fortunate to be able to tap into his talents for this important role.” As a result of Silvey’s departure, Savas explained that Advanstar Automotive will bolster its team with a new editor and e-media specialist.
